WETATi Academy is a non-profit community based educational and economic leadership empowerment network organization. It is a Center for Creative Thinking, Leadership and Entrepreneurship located at, and in partnership with, Nyumburu Cultural Center, University of Maryland, College Park, MD. Our target market includes K-12 and college students. We do not discriminate based on religion, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
WETATi Academy’s main objective is to educate, train and empower “low to moderate income” economically challenged K-12 and college students with the tools necessary to prepare them for the 21st century workforce and/or to earn a college degree by teaching them the importance of creating their own opportunities through a mindset shift and changing their narrative from a job seeking to an entrepreneurship mentality. This is achieved through entrepreneurship expositions, conventions, competition and strategic partnerships with area schools. Students will become creative and critical thinkers, disruptive innovators, problem solvers, entrepreneurs, productive employees, team players who are financially sound and literate, and socially responsible citizens of their communities and the world at large.
“I really like what your organization is doing in helping out with entrepreneurship for students with any major. I understand how that is because as a sociology /sustainability major on campus and entering some business pitch competitions I get how the stigma is around other majors.”
-Anthony Escalante, Student, University of Maryland, College Park
