Students will engage in an 8-week series focused on developing students to become impactful members of the workforce. Whether students aim to own their own businesses or build a career working for established organizations, it is likely that at some point, students will be members of the workforce. WETATi’s program partners with a real and local company, Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH), to prepare students to succeed in the 21st century workforce and to have networking opportunities often only accessible later in life.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that 92% of employers reported looking for soft skills as well as technical skills in employees, but that 89% of employers had a difficult time finding such employees. By leveraging the Maryland State Standards for English Language Arts, WETATi ensures students have the soft skills needed for success. The relationship between WETATi and SA-TECH benefits personal and professional development; intra and interpersonal communication and relationships with the general public/workplace; and professional public presentation and speaking.
WETATi prides itself on going the extra mile as a workforce developer to be there for participating students to help ensure their success by offering training, educational programs, mentorship, internships and connections throughout the year. We add value and enhance what they have been taught in the classroom and give them practical and experiential knowledge for success through our wraparound services and training to prepare them for the 21st century workplace. Our program discovers and hones the entrepreneurship and leadership traits already within them.
Middle School Course Outline
Middle school students will gain an understanding of employment and continue their development of professional leadership skills. Students will hear from employers themselves, participate in a career fair, and learn what success looks like outside of entrepreneurship. Students will discuss the role of soft skills in the workplace. These courses will be taught by SA-TECH and other industry leaders.
