OVERVIEW

Students will be exposed and introduced to various STEM related field such as coding, cyber security, robotics, esports and other fields. Students (STEMPreneur’s) will learn how to navigate the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through the various topics introduced. Students will develop experiential knowledge through practical exercises. Middle and high school students will complete the same course, taught by some of our strategic partners such as University of Maryland College Park Recreation and Wellness, University of Maryland Department of Environmental Science and Technology, and US Air Force Cyber Security specialist.

There will be a separate course for middle and high school students with learning aligned to their appropriate grade band. These classes are aligned with standards as detailed in the Program Overview. Classes will take place on Tuesdays, from 4-5 pm. Students are expected to bring a notebook, folder or binder, and pen/pencil.

Course Content

STEMpreneurship
Students (STEMPreneur’s) will learn how to navigate the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) based ecosystem of esports. Students will map the relationship between games, players, teams, fans, leagues, organizers, investors and multimedia. Students will learn about gaming related careers, hardware, shoutcasting, extended reality broadcasting and event production. Students will develop experiential knowledge through practical exercises and coaching.
