FINANCIAL LITERACY

The purpose of this training is to get students empowered and excited about their personal finances and develop an early, healthy relationship with money. Through this program, students will learn and understand the basic principles of financial literacy.

Students will learn about the following:

  • Money management
  • How to create a budget that works
  • Managing their money with a spending plan
  • Investing
  • Saving for emergencies
  • Credit
  • Why finance matters

Plus, so much more. Students will end the course with a bank account, budget, and participate in our Credit without the Karma program.

We accomplish all these with our strategic financial institutions’ partners, other economic development organizations, professional consultants, and through our outreach programs, in house programs, and workshops.

Teaching low-and moderate-income students the power of financial literacy is imperative and would help toward their early economic development mindset, which is crucial for entrepreneurship education.

Research shows that without strategic financial literacy and entrepreneurship education for this population, economic development is impaired, marginalized and perpetuates income and economic disparity of this population.

It is said that information is power. The same thing can be said about financial issues. The more knowledge you have about finances, the more financially armed you will be.

I find the WETATi Academy financial literacy program to be reassuring, and that our future is in good hands with students from WETATi Academy. I was impressed and heartened to see the level of dedication, ingenuity and passion behind all of the students as they shared their vision for their financial future; with insightful questions and real-life scenarios.

“Financial literacy is the development of skills that allow every individual to understand how money works in the real world. The most important financial skill that every person should master is how to effectively set and maintain a budget; what money is coming in vs. what money must be paid out. Once this fundamental base is established (and followed) you can begin to build more sophisticated financial plans that will guide you through the various stages of life. Financial literacy should be a part of every high school curriculum.”
